A full moon happens roughly every 29.53 days — one full synodic month — which means there are usually 12 full moons per year, occasionally 13. When two full moons fall in the same calendar month, the second is called a Blue Moon.

Each month's full moon has a folk name with roots in Native American, Colonial American and European traditions: Wolf Moon (January), Snow Moon, Worm Moon, Pink Moon, Flower Moon, Strawberry Moon, Buck Moon, Sturgeon Moon, Harvest Moon, Hunter Moon, Beaver Moon and Cold Moon (December).

A Supermoon happens when a full moon coincides with the moon's closest approach to Earth (perigee), with a distance below ~360,000 km. It can appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than a typical full moon. Upcoming Supermoons are marked on this page.

The dates and times are calculated using Jean Meeus' lunar phase algorithm (Astronomical Algorithms, ch. 49). They are accurate to within a few minutes for any year close to today, which is well below the precision most people need.
